THINGS TO DO
The Rockhouse Boutique offers a thoughtful collection of local products, clothing, accessories, art, books, CD's, and personal items, all inspired by the spirit of the island and its people. We invite you to browse the Boutique.
Rockhouse Items...unmistakably Rockhouse and Jamaican. From t-shirts to bed throws to playing cards, you can take a little piece of the "Rock"home with you. Long-time local artist, Karl Ricketts paints Rockhouse images (you might spot Karl painting around the property).New York based and Rockhouse regular Phil Shung has designed our new range of T-Shirts for men and women. Our Jamaican inspired, high quality cotton bed throws were custom designed by Cool Change (as were our Spa sarongs), who also supply Calypso in New York. Our poolside wooden plates and cane ramekins are also crafted locally.
Callalloo...French design and Jamaican inspiration Callalloo is the work of French designer Sophie Eyssautier, now based here in Negril. Sophie's chic collection of clothes, tee's, bags, baby clothes and gift items combines her Paris design experience (at houses such as Dior and Chevignon) with Jamaican inspiration and craftsmanship. Sophie has been visiting Jamaica since the mid 1980's and now makes Jamaica her home. We love her embroidered clothes and bags...better still that it's designed and hand-crafted in Jamaica.
Starfish Oils...good for the body and soul Based in Kingston and working with more than 2 dozen rural and inner city craftsmen and women, Starfish Oils' unique collection of island-inspired aromatherapy products (including our hotel soaps and amenities) evokes the true spirit of the Caribbean. Starfish's credo is "Assault your senses. Decorate your life. Be natural. Give back and always...smell beautiful". Why not! Treat yourself or someone special to the "Sweet Jamaica" and "Blue Mountain Coffee" candles and their luxurious soaps.
Cool Change...tropical chic Rhonda Scholes, the Australian born owner/designer behind Cool Change has crafted her passion for the spirit and beauty of Bali into an international collection of sarongs and resort/summer wear. The collection, made in Indonesia using traditional hand batik and embroidery, has been for many years a mainstay label at leading edge fashion retailers such as Calypso in New York. Fashionable and functional....it's ideal resort wear for the Caribbean.
Luna Designs...the shapes and colors of the Caribbean. Luna Designs is a Barbados family-based designer and manufacturer of creative jewelry, accessories and artifacts using natural and environmentally friendly materials. Their latest collection features COROZO seeds, metals and natural fibers. Simple and beautiful.
Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee...the BEST coffee in the world! Jamaica's Majestic Blue Mountain is home to one of the highest altitude coffee regions in the world. Blessed with terrain, soil and climate perfectly suited for cultivating coffee, Blue Mountain Coffee has been internationally famous since the 18th century. Blue Mountain Coffee has a very clean taste with notable sweetness. It is rich in flavor and aroma, full bodied with moderate acidity. Grown by small farmers in a restricted geographic area, Blue Mountain Coffee is not widely available outside of Jamaica. Take the taste and aroma of Jamaica home with you.
Jamaican CDs The CD collection moves from Jamaica's music roots through reggae classics to today's "riddimz" Part educational, part inspirational.
Jamaican Books Chances are that if you are staying at Rockhouse, you already have an interest in Jamaican music, people, culture, landscape, food and history...and if not, you probably will by the time you leave. We offer a selection of Jamaican books &ndash a little something for everyone. Our favorites include:
Walkerswood Caribbean Foods...the taste of the Caribbean. Tucked away in the hills of St Ann, Walkerswood offers an innovative line of traditional Jamaican cooking sauces, spices, seasonings, preserves and canned vegetables. The company started life in 1978 as part of a rural community's effort to create employment for its people. It now has a full time staff of over 150. Raw materials are purchased fresh from local farmers across the island and from the Walkerswood Farmers Group, the village community farm. Their Jerk seasoning is a must for the BBQ back home.
Pickapepper Sauce...always on the table Prepared with cane vinegar and aged in oak barrels, Pickapeppa Sauce has a sweet but mellow flavor giving it an unmatched versatility. It has been called "Jamaican Ketchup", a tribute to its range of uses. Unique and delicious.
Kids Things Great tie dyed Jamaican Tees and dresses; Callalloo makes beautiful kid's tees and dresses; and what child wouldn't like a pair of Jamaican Havaianas or a cute Bob Marley Tee.
Video Rental We have video/televisions available for rental from the Rockhouse boutique with over 100 video titles including the past 50 years of Academy Awards "best picture" winners, and a collection of made in Jamaica movies.
Local Markets Local crafts, woodcarvings, silk screens, tee shirts, paintings, etc. can all be found in stalls on the street and at the vendor's and craft markets. The main craft market is located through Negril town, just over the bridge on the left hand side. Be ready to bargain and prepared to politely say 'no thank-you!' In addition, other favorite locally produced gifts include Jamaican Rum, Jamaica's coffee liquor Tia Maria, Royal Jamaican and Macanudo cigars, and the world famous Blue Mountain coffee. Also freely available are Cuban cigars but beware taking them into the United States.
